I’m a shopaholic…

For some reason I stayed up really late on Monday night watching YouTube videos of the $20 drugstore makeup tag. I must have watched more than 10 videos… The rules of the tag were that you had to create an entire look for $20. As I was watching all of the amazing drugstore makeup looks I really wanted to go shopping! I haven’t been wearing much drugstore makeup for the past year so I decided to go to Target (again) to pick up some old high school/college favorites that I haven’t used in a long time and some new products that I’ve been hearing/reading good things about. I didn’t stick to the $20 rule… Here’s what I bought:

NYC Smooth Skin Bronzer in Sunny

Rimmel Eyebrow Pencil in Hazel

Rimmel Stay Matte Powder in Creamy Natural

Maybelline Color Tattoo Eyeshadow in Tough as Taupe

Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush in Peach Satin

Loreal Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream in Light

Loreal Voluminous Waterproof Mascara in Black (college favorite)

Dr. Pepper Lip Smacker (high school favorite)

I bought these products with the intent of recreating my everyday look with less expensive options. I also plan to compare them to some of the other products that I have been using daily. This is also my first time using any products from NYC and Rimmel.

My first impressions after using these products today are that the blush is a pretty cool (and bouncy) concept. I really like the color that I chose and it was easy to apply. The BB Cream is alright, I think I need to give it a few more tries before I can really decide. The bronzer is nice and it didn’t make me look orange. The powder is so so, it did keep my skin matte for quite a while but I don’t really like the way it smells. The eyebrow pencil is really nice, I enjoy the little brush on the end as well. The eyeshadow is awesome! It stayed on all day! I usually get home from work with very little eyeshadow left on my lids and it was all in place today. In fact, I picked up two more colors at CVS on my way home from work today! The mascara was just as good as I remember. I really like the way it separates my lashes. The Lip Smacker was a just for fun purchase… I’ve always liked the tint of the Dr. Pepper flavor. 🙂

I plan to do a review and swatches of the Maybelline Color Tattoo eyeshadows soon. I also plan to compare and review all of the BB Creams I’ve been trying lately.

Have you used any of these products? What do you think? Is there anything you’d like to see?

  1. I have the bronzer and the Tough as Taupe and I adore both of them. The NYC bronzer is such a great product for a great price. The Tough as Taupe was actually an accident I meant to get the bronze color and picked it up instead. I’m so glad though because it is lovely.

  2. I have the Bouncy blush too! In a different color though. Sometimes I just play with it because it’s so squishy. And I know what you mean about powders having weird smells that ruin the experience.

    • I used the powder again today and I definitely wouldn’t buy it again. It is not very good quality and didn’t really give any results today. The smell doesn’t help it either… oh well, you live and you learn…

  3. I love the Loreal BB Cream and use it every morning. I think the grittiness is kind of strange though- it works well to even out my skintone and works as a great primer for my more expensive Urdan Decay foundation.

    • I actually picked up “bad to the bronze” today! It is a really pretty color. I love the Revlon Lip Butters, I have Juicy Papaya, Berry Smoothie, and Sweet Tart. I will have to try that mascara next time!

  4. I’ve been really into Drugstore makeup after watching YouTube videos also. The Color Tattoos have changed my life. I love cream shadow but could never find ones to compete with my Paint Pots and Benefit ones. They are the jam. I’m also with you on the Rimmel powder. I like the way it looks but HATE the smell!

    • I am SO loving the color tattoos, I have bought four more since this post! I’m glad I’m not the only one that thinks the powder smells terrible. I thought I was being overly sensitive…
