Makeup Storage: Ikea Helmer

I recently posted about my trip to Ikea to create my DIY vanity that I had seen on Pinterest. While I was there I picked up the Helmer drawers and Antonius inserts. I am in love with this storage solution because everything finally has a place.

I keep all of my favorite single eyeshadows and eyeshadow palettes under the glass on the top of my vanity because they are too pretty to hide in a drawer. I am really loving my new set up and I guess that’s why I’m so excited to share it with all of you! I’d love to see how you store your makeup. Please comment and leave a link below!

Makeup Storage: Ikea DIY Vanity

If you are on Pinterest regularly I am sure you have seen the Ikea hack vanity floating around. I have had my eye on making one for quite a while. I had my makeup on an old desk and it just wasn’t working for me anymore. Like I said, I found this on Pinterest but since then I am unable to find the original post for this project, only links to pages that have nothing to do with it… Don’t you hate that? Anyway, I love the way it turned out. If you’d like to make one I’ve listed the items needed below.

*edit* I found a post about the smaller version of the vanity here (I made the large version):

Items Needed:

Ekby Gruvan Shelf– There are 2 sizes to choose from: 31 1/8″x 7 1/2″ for $29.99 or 46 7/8×11″ for $39.99. (The $29.99 one is too small for this project in my opinion.)

4 Legs of your choice. I used 4 Adils legs for $3.50 each. The screws that come with the legs are too long and will go through the shelf so I went to the “As Is” area at Ikea and asked for 20 of the screws numbered 108458 (5 for each leg)

1 Mirror of your choice. Ikea has great options, I used one that I already had

1 Stool of your choice. I chose the Marius stool because it was only $5.99

Storage containers of your choice. I chose the Godmorgon storage set of 3 for under the glass ($15.00). They stick out a little but I don’t mind.

I also got the 365+ 3-tier serving platter for $14.99 in the kitchen section to display/store my everyday products.

The perfume dish is also from Ikea, I don’t remember what it is called but it was on sale for $3.99!

I also purchased the Helmer drawers in white for $39.99, and 5 Antonius inserts ($3.00 each) for the drawers (I didn’t want an insert in the bottom drawer since I’ll be using it for my ipsy bags). The inserts fit very snugly in the drawers, perfect in my opinion.

Some of the other containers you see are from the bathroom/closet organization section of Target.

I’d love to hear what you think or answer any questions. How do you store your makeup?
