NYX Lip Gloss

I was at Ulta last weekend and I decided I would give these glosses a try after seeing them on a few blogs and YouTube videos. I am fairly new to the NYX brand so I had fun picking these out. I ended up deciding on the Mega Shine Lip Gloss in Beige and the Butter Gloss in Strawberry Parfait.

Mega Shine Lip Gloss: Beige

The name of this color is deceiving. In my opinion it is not beige at all but a nice soft pink. I really like the way this gloss applied and the way it felt on my lips. It is very moisturizing and smooth. I also really like that it smells like cherries! I will most likely purchase more colors in the future.

Butter Gloss: Strawberry Parfait

I recently discovered that any lip product that has strawberry in its name or color description is probably the perfect product for me. I love this shade of pink because it complements my skin tone and it is fun to wear everyday. This gloss far exceeded my expectations. It is amazingly buttery and smooth on my lips and the color payoff is great! I especially like the scent of this gloss, it is buttery and sweet but not overwhelming. The color of this gloss reminds me of my favorite gloss that I wrote a post about not too long ago. You can check out my Chihuahua Bite post here to read about how much I love the Too Faced Glamour Glosses. The feel and look of this gloss is different than the Too Faced one but I think the colors are similar. I will definitely purchase more of these awesome NYX Butter Glosses ASAP!

Overall, I liked the Butter Gloss more than the Mega Shine. Both are great products but I liked the feel of the Butter Gloss more.

What do you think of these glosses? Any color recommendations?

I’m a shopaholic…

For some reason I stayed up really late on Monday night watching YouTube videos of the $20 drugstore makeup tag. I must have watched more than 10 videos… The rules of the tag were that you had to create an entire look for $20. As I was watching all of the amazing drugstore makeup looks I really wanted to go shopping! I haven’t been wearing much drugstore makeup for the past year so I decided to go to Target (again) to pick up some old high school/college favorites that I haven’t used in a long time and some new products that I’ve been hearing/reading good things about. I didn’t stick to the $20 rule… Here’s what I bought:

P1010698

NYC Smooth Skin Bronzer in Sunny

Rimmel Eyebrow Pencil in Hazel

Rimmel Stay Matte Powder in Creamy Natural

Maybelline Color Tattoo Eyeshadow in Tough as Taupe

Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush in Peach Satin

Loreal Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream in Light

Loreal Voluminous Waterproof Mascara in Black (college favorite)

Dr. Pepper Lip Smacker (high school favorite)

P1010699

I bought these products with the intent of recreating my everyday look with less expensive options. I also plan to compare them to some of the other products that I have been using daily. This is also my first time using any products from NYC and Rimmel.

My first impressions after using these products today are that the blush is a pretty cool (and bouncy) concept. I really like the color that I chose and it was easy to apply. The BB Cream is alright, I think I need to give it a few more tries before I can really decide. The bronzer is nice and it didn’t make me look orange. The powder is so so, it did keep my skin matte for quite a while but I don’t really like the way it smells. The eyebrow pencil is really nice, I enjoy the little brush on the end as well. The eyeshadow is awesome! It stayed on all day! I usually get home from work with very little eyeshadow left on my lids and it was all in place today. In fact, I picked up two more colors at CVS on my way home from work today! The mascara was just as good as I remember. I really like the way it separates my lashes. The Lip Smacker was a just for fun purchase… I’ve always liked the tint of the Dr. Pepper flavor. 🙂

I plan to do a review and swatches of the Maybelline Color Tattoo eyeshadows soon. I also plan to compare and review all of the BB Creams I’ve been trying lately.

Have you used any of these products? What do you think? Is there anything you’d like to see?

Mini Target Haul

Friday night was a busy night… My boyfriend and I drove almost two hours to the closest Ikea when I got off work to gather the supplies for my vanity project that I posted yesterday. He was excited to go because that meant we would be able to stop at the Target that sells his favorite Indian foods. I was excited too because our local Target is always a disaster. While we were there I picked up a couple of products that I’ve been wanting to try. I’ve seen a ton of YouTube and blog reviews on the Revlon Lip Butters and the Maybelline Age Rewind Dark Circle Erasers so I was very curious to try them for myself.

I am a sucker for lip products so any chance I get to try something new is exciting. I picked up two of the lip butters. I got one of the new shades Juicy Papaya and one the older shades called Berry Smoothie. I’m not really a lipstick person but the reviews on these made me curious because they seemed me apply more like a tinted balm. I was pleasantly surprised by these lip butters. I loved the way they felt on my lips and they gave them a nice tint that wasn’t too dramatic. I would definitely purchase these again. In fact, I plan to purchase the color Sweet Tart as soon as I can find it!

Lately it seems like the concealer in every YouTube tutorial that I watch is the Maybelline Age Rewind that I purchased (I bought the Light color). When I first started seeing it on blogs and YouTube I didn’t think it looked like anything special. I had been using a Benefit Boi-ing mini that came with a set but it was starting to make my under eye area feel very dry. I also use the Too Faced Absolutely Flawless concealer but sometimes it feels a little greasy. I was excited to try this because it just kept showing up everywhere and now I understand the reason why. This concealer applies very smoothly, it doesn’t get “stuck” in fine lines, and it blends extremely well.  I also liked that it felt hydrating without feeling greasy. I will definitely continue to use this product and would purchase it again.

What are your favorite lip products? What is your favorite concealer?

Kaylen from Julep

At the end of March I forgot to log in to my Julep Maven account to choose my polish colors for the month of April so I was sent my default Boho Glam box. The box came with the colors Kaylen (orange) and Lena (a teal color). I loved Lena but I wasn’t super excited when I saw Kaylen, it reminded me of an orange traffic cone. I only have one orange nail polish in my collection and I only wear it when I go to SF Giants games. This color sat with my Julep collection for all of April and I had no intention of using it in the near future. Last night I asked my boyfriend to pick a color for me and it was Kaylen. I decided to stick with his pick and try it out. I am so glad I did! The color looks so much better on my nails than in the bottle. It applied smoothly and it looked great after two coats. It also dried very quickly and it has a gorgeous silky matte finish. I will definitely be painting my nails orange more often!

I have quickly fallen in love with Julep products. So much so that I upgraded to the entire collection for the month of May. It is gorgeous!!! I can’t wait!!!!
